HOUSTON - April 26, 2012 - Spring ISD elementary schools will hold Kindergarten Roundup in May for children who will begin kindergarten in the 2012-13 school year. Kindergarten in Spring ISD is a full-day program for children who will be five years old by Sept. 1, 2012. Registration for kindergarten is voluntary, but once a child enrolls for kindergarten, he or she becomes subject to the compulsory attendance law. That law requires a student to be in attendance at least 90 percent of the days that school is in session in order to receive credit.
To register a child for kindergarten, a parent or legal guardian must be with the child and present a certified copy of the birth certificate and a certified immunization record. In addition, the parent or guardian must provide proof of residence in Spring ISD, either in the form of a mortgage statement, rent receipt or utility bill.
If the child has a Social Security number, that number is requested or the district will provide a state-assigned number for accounting purposes.
Children who are currently enrolled in Spring ISD prekindergarten will be automatically enrolled in kindergarten without having to participate in the roundup. The dates and times of kindergarten registration are listed below. For more information, call the school where your child will be attending or go online to www.springisd.org.
