Counselor's Corner

Mr. Jay Andrews

Mr. Jay Andrews-6th Grade Counselor

I am Jay G. Andrews III, a proud Houston native. Graduating from M.B. Smiley High School in 1989, I embarked on a seven-year minor league career in professional baseball, having been drafted by the Kansas City Royals straight out of high school.

As my baseball career winded down, I transitioned to a meaningful role with the Harris County Juvenile Probation Department on West Dallas St. in Houston. For several years, I supervised Harris County's most violent youth offenders, making a powerful impact on young men and women considered candidates for the "Prison Pipeline."

Subsequently, I began my career in Aldine ISD at Compass – Alternative School DAEP, serving as an English Teacher for four years. Following this, I dedicated four years as a select baseball coach at Baseball USA/Marucci. In 2013, I returned to the classroom in the Houston Independent School District, working at Forest Brook Middle School (2013-2018) and Secondary DAEP (2019-2024) as a School Counselor.

With 15 years in education (10 years as a classroom teacher and 5 years as a school counselor), I joined the Dueitt Team in Spring ISD in 2024. I am enthusiastic about assisting our students in developing strategies for Social and Emotional Learning (SEL). Additionally, I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) by the state of Texas, ensuring that parents and all stakeholders can trust that their children will receive the best care possible in Spring ISD. I look forward to contributing to the success of our students and the Spring ISD community.

Hi, I am Michelle Punch-Norwood and I am thrilled to be the awesome Lead Counselor at Dueitt Middle School.  I began my teaching career in North Forest ISD in 1994 as a 8th grade Science teacher at Northwood Middle School, 6th grade Science at Keahey Intermediate and 7th – 8th grade at B.C. Elmore Middle School.  In need of a change, I went to Hoffman Middle School in Aldine ISD. In 2006-2007, I came to Spring ISD were I Taught 10th grade Biology and 12th grade STAAR Science at Westfield High School.

I am an alumni of Texas Southern University and Prairie View A & M University.  I have one 18-year-old son, Ray, and we are explorers.  He recently graduated from Westfield High School, Class of 2020, and he will be attending college in the fall. We are so proud of him.  I have been married for 20 years and he still makes me laugh.

I love middle schoolers because they are big elementary school kids.  They still need you to listen to them and they want to pretend that they have life all figured out.  I love helping them through the road blocks of life.  I also believe in being stern with them while providing a continuous supply of love and support.  Welcome to the new school year.
