Hello Link Leopards!

Allow me to introduce myself. I am Mrs. Karen Young, the school counselor…The “Caring Counselor” at Link Elementary. I will be interacting with many of you and your children this school year. I am a proud graduate of Prairie View A& M University where I received my Bachelors of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies and Masters of Arts in Counseling. I have been an elementary school counselor for thirteen years. I am “ROARING WITH PRIDE” and looking forward to a successful school year!

 My primary responsibility is to help your child achieve academically and develop socially.  Every child at Link will develop into a well-rounded student by learning various character education traits throughout the year. This means learning how to get along with their peers, discussing bullying, making good decisions, controlling anger, accepting responsibility, being aware of their strengths and weaknesses, learning test-taking strategies, and developing self-control. These skills will be taught through individual, small group or classroom guidance counseling as needed.

 I am also here to help students who are facing any family difficulties.  If your family is experiencing anything out of the ordinary, such as a relative diagnosed with a terminal illness, death, divorce, etc. please let me know.   We can work together in helping your child as he/she goes through any of these situations.

 One of my major functions is to be of help to parents. If you have a particular concern about your child, I welcome the opportunity to conference with you to discuss the matter.  It is important to remember that school personnel and parents working together are a winning combination for our children.  I truly look forward to making a difference in your child’s education and life.
