A pair of Spring ISD high schools are once again listed among the best in the nation, according to the U.S. News and World Report rankings. Both Spring Early College Academy and Carl Wunsche Sr. High School were named to the list of best high schools again this year, with both also rising in the overall rankings.
Spring Early College Academy was ranked #472 nationally (up from #528 last year) and #63 in Texas (up from nine places from last year).
Carl Wunsche Sr. High School earned a #1400 ranking in the United States (up from #2253 last year), while rising to #155 in Texas from #224 last year.
Both campuses boasted 100% graduation rates, with Spring Early College earning an overall score of 97.33 and Wunsche earning an overall score of 92.07.
“Our goal in Spring ISD is to provide each and every one of our students with a top-notch education, and to prepare them for their futures,” Superintendent Dr. Lupita Hinojosa said. “To have two of our high schools ranked on a national level – and to have significantly improved year over year – shows that our hard work and perseverance is paying off, and that our students are attending some of the best schools in the country.”
U.S. News & World Report‘s Best High Schools measures high schools on six factors: college readiness, reading and math proficiency, reading and math performance, underserved student performance, college curriculum offerings, and graduation rates – putting them in the top 40% of high schools ranked nationwide.
Spring Early College Academy Principal Kristine Guidry said the recognition is a reflection of the hard work the staff and students on campus put in every day.
“Our teachers are committed to providing our students the best education and preparation for their future as possible,” she said. “This recognition reflects the hard work of our students, who continue to help us push forward and redefine what excellence looks like on a daily basis.”
Dr. Alfred James, principal of Carl Wunsche Sr. High School, also credited the students on campus for continuing to make Wunsche a top school in the nation.
“This acknowledgment fills me with immense pride and gratitude,” Dr. James said. “Being named among the top high schools in the U.S. is a testament to our collaborative efforts in fostering academic excellence, cultivating a supportive learning environment, and preparing our scholars for their future endeavors.”
