Interactive Read Aloud
A STAAR-aligned interactive read-aloud is a dynamic literacy event where students actively engage with a text as it is read aloud by the teacher or Library Media Specialist. Unlike traditional read-alouds, where students passively listen, interactive read-alouds invite discussion and interaction throughout the reading process. Teachers strategically pause to ask questions through turn and talks, encourage predictions, and facilitate conversations about key ideas and illustrations, fostering deeper comprehension and critical thinking skills. This method not only enhances students' listening abilities and vocabulary but also builds a sense of community in the classroom by allowing students to share their thoughts and insights. The read-aloud concludes with a community circle that empowers students to facilitate their conversation. Overall, interactive read-alouds serve as a powerful instructional tool that supports literacy development and encourages a love for reading.
