Dr. Deborah Jensen

Dr. Deborah Jensen, Position 1

STEM Professional Development Program Leader, retired

Dr. Deborah Jensen was elected to the Board of Trustees in November 2010 and re-elected in 2013, 2016 and 2019. She brings many years of experience in education to the Board, and is the proud grandparent of two Spring ISD students. Dr. Jensen has a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of California at Los Angeles, a master’s degree in biology from the University of Hartford, teaching certification from Sam Houston State University and a doctorate degree in educational curriculum and instruction from Texas A&M University. She has taught secondary science and math, worked in a biomedical research laboratory and led professional development programs at Rice University and the Southeast Regional T-STEM Center. She retired from paid work in 2012 and now works as a volunteer for the students, staff and community of Spring ISD.

Kelly P. Hodges, Secretary, Position 2

Kelly P. Hodges, Secretary, Position 2

Regional Director for the Gulf Coast - Coast Guard Foundation

Kelly P. Hodges was elected to the Board of Trustees in November 2019. She has lived in the Spring ISD community since 2000. As an active member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., the Omicron Tau Omega Chapter, which serves Spring, Texas, she has been actively engaged in the community through programs and services spear-headed by the chapter since 2004. She is an alumna of Grambling State University, where she received her Bachelor of Arts and Master of Science degrees. She brings 18 years of operations management experience in communications, marketing, public health, advocacy, and nonprofit management and fund development.

Justine Durant, President, Position 3

Justine Durant, President, Position 3

Regional Director, Cigna Healthcare of Texas, Inc.

Appointed to the Board of Trustees in November 2006 to fill a vacancy in Position 3, Ms. Durant was elected to the position in November 2007 and re-elected in 2010, 2013, 2016 and 2019. She has served two terms as President of the Board. Ms. Durant brings to the position many years of experience as a volunteer in Spring ISD. She has been an active member of parent-teacher organizations throughout the District and has served on numerous Spring ISD committees.  She has also been an active advocate with the Texas Association of School Boards legislative committee, dedicated to driving change in Austin. In addition, Ms. Durant extends services to her community as a Connection Committee Chair for the Spring Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., with  a focus on advocating legislatively for public education.

Winford Adams Jr., Vice President, Position 4

Winford Adams Jr., Vice President, Position 4

Harris County Department of Education Public Information and Policy Manager

Elected to the Board of Trustees in November 2017 while running unopposed and re-elected in 2020, Mr. Winford Adams Jr. brings a variety of educational experiences to the position and is the proud parent of three Spring ISD students. Mr. Adams received his bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of California at Berkeley and then served two years as a Teach for America corps member in South Louisiana before embarking on his own professional teaching career at schools in Austin and Houston. He taught math for several years prior to earning his law degree at the University of Houston.

Rhonda Newhouse, Assistant Secretary, Position 5

Field Supervisor of Principals and Counselor Certification Internship at Prairie View A&M University

Appointed to the Board of Trustees in July 2014 to fill a vacancy in Position 5, Ms. Newhouse was elected to the position in November 2014 and re-elected in 2017 and 2020. She has over 40 years of experience in education, which includes serving as a teacher, counselor and campus administrator. She is a long-time supporter of Spring ISD, having served on the Spring ISD Business and Community advisory committee, and continues to serve on the Spring ISD Education Foundation Board of Directors.

Carmen Correa, Position 6

Carmen Correa, Position 6

Sr. Scenario Desk Analyst, InterLinc Mortgage Services, LLC

Appointed to the Board of Trustees in August 2021 to fill a vacancy in Position 6 and elected in November 2021, Ms. Correa joined the board as a 22-year resident of the district and a longtime Spring ISD volunteer. Her volunteer work in the district included serving as parent co-chair of the Spring ISD Student Health Advisory Council; serving as a member of the Spring ISD Parent Advisory Council and the Ponderosa Elementary School Parent Advisory Council; and serving as vice president and membership chair of the Ponderosa Elementary School PTA. With a bachelor’s in global business management from the University of Phoenix, Correa also brings private-sector experience from previous roles in the mortgage, financial services and business consulting industries. She has also been active as a volunteer math and English tutor and as an area youth sports league coach.

Natasha McDaniel, M.Ed., Position 7

Natasha McDaniel, M.Ed., Position 7

Founder, CEO, and Family Literacy Coach, Lit for Life, LLC

Appointed to the Board of Trustees in August 2021 to fill a vacancy in Position 7 and elected in November 2021, Ms. McDaniel brings extensive training as an educator, including a bachelor’s in early childhood education from Bowling Green State University and a master’s in curriculum and instruction from Sam Houston State University. Previously, she worked as an elementary school teacher, a language arts specialist and a district literacy coach in Aldine ISD. More recently, she served as a classroom management coach with a local educational nonprofit and worked with area teachers as a cohort leader for HB3 Reading Academies through the Region 4 Education Service Center. McDaniel also completed a fellowship program with Leadership ISD, a Dallas-based nonprofit that works to equip citizens to advocate on behalf of academic excellence and equity at both the local and state level.
