What is McKinney Vento Act?

The McKinney-Vento Act is a federal law that ensures the right of students to go to school even when they are homeless or don’t have a permanent address. The Act aims to reduce barriers that have prevented many homeless youth from enrolling, attending, and succeeding in school. Per the McKinney-Vento Act a student is considered “homeless” or in “transitional housing” if they lack a fixed, regular and adequate nighttime residence. If you believe you child can get help under the McKinney Vento Act, please contact your school counselor for more information. Visit the Texas Education for Homeless Children and Youth website for more information.
