Payment Information:
While the tax office is closed as set forth above, payment can be made in many different ways, as follows:

For your convenience, there is a payment drop box located in the front of the building; any payments in the box when the tax office re-opens in January will be given a posting date for December and a current/past four years record of payment can be printed from our website if needed;

Property taxpayers may use credit cards, debit cards, or e-Checks to pay their taxes and payment can also be made via telephone. In addition, payment can be made through the U.S. Postal service; any payment bearing a postmark by the date of December 31st will be accepted as a December payment and a current year record of payment can be printed from the tax office website if needed.

The Tax Office accepts full and partial payments of property taxes online. However, after the delinquency date, the penalty and interest will accrue. Tax payments cannot be accepted at HCAD. Harris Central Appraisal District has no authority to receive tax payments from any jurisdiction. All tax payments must be mailed or delivered to the tax collector. Tax Lien Transfer payments must be mailed to the P.O. Box 90458 address. Please note that it can take up to 10 business days for the posting of credit card payments to be completed.

April 30
Deadline to make an application for many types of total exemptions. Homestead and disabled veteran exemptions may be applied for up to one year after the taxes for the year of the application become delinquent (usually February 1). Over-65 or disability homestead applications may be filed as soon as the applicant becomes 65 or meets the Social Security requirements for total disability, whichever is applicable.

Payment Options for Seniors and Disabled Taxpayers:
If you are at least 65 years of age or disabled you may make payments in four installments without accruing penalty and interest if the first payment is paid before the delinquency date of February 1. You must apply for both the homestead and over-65 or disabled person exemptions at your central appraisal district. Seniors and disabled taxpayers should also be aware that they may defer or postpone payment of the taxes on their homestead property. An application is made through the appraisal district or we can assist you in person if you visit the tax office.
